Perry has the father of actor Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Her first television roles were two appearances as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in The ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mom. Her parents, however, did not allow her to act until she reached the age of adulthood due to the effects stress would have on their child. Perry admits that she was not at ease in the stage during high school and began performing for an opportunity to make new students at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry was able to begin her acting career in New York after graduation, landing minor roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry return to California to pursue work as a theatre actress. Perry was a part of Broadway as a part of The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. The show featured her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry made an appearance in 9 episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. Perry played a prominent role for the ABC Drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. The actress was also featured on The CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mother. It was her first character despite her familial connection to the character.
